Privacy Policy

This privacy policy explains which data is processed when you use the Too Many Plant Pics app (the "app") and this website. In short: the app works without an account and without servers of its own. Your plants and photos stay on your device and, if you choose, in your personal iCloud account. The developer has no access to them. The app only collects anonymous usage statistics (see section 2.4).

2. The app

2.1 Which data the app processes

The app only processes the content you create yourself:

• The names of your plants, their order and archive status
• Photos you take in the app or import from your library, including the capture date and the metadata contained in the image file
• Care entries and care schedules (for example when you watered, fertilized or repotted)
• App settings (for example appearance and reminder times) and the display state of in-app tips

There is no user account. The app shows no ads, contains no tracking technologies and does not connect to any servers of the developer. Besides the synchronization with Apple's iCloud, if you use it (see section 2.3), the only network connection the app makes is the transmission of anonymous usage statistics to Aptabase (see section 2.4).

2.2 Storage on your device

All content is stored locally on your device. The developer has no access to it. When you delete plants or photos in the app, they are removed from the device. Deleting the app deletes all locally stored content.

2.3 iCloud synchronization

If iCloud is enabled on your device, the app synchronizes your plants, photos, care entries and tip state between your devices through Apple Inc.'s iCloud service (CloudKit). The data is stored exclusively in the private database of your own iCloud account. The developer cannot view, retrieve or modify this data.

Apple processes this data as an independent controller under the terms of your Apple account. See Apple's privacy policy for details. You can turn off synchronization for the app at any time in the iOS Settings under your name, iCloud. Data the app stored in iCloud can be deleted there under "Manage Account Storage". If iCloud is unavailable, the app keeps your content on the device only.

2.4 Usage statistics (Aptabase)

To understand which features are used and to improve the app, the app sends anonymous usage events to Aptabase, a privacy-focused analytics service operated by Technov Solutions SRL, Bucharest, Romania. The data is processed and stored exclusively on servers within the European Union. The legal basis is the legitimate interest in improving and developing the app (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

An event describes which action took place (for example "photo added" or "reminder enabled") together with general technical details: app version, operating system version, device model, app language, chosen settings and summary counts such as the number of your plants and photos. The app also reports whether the one-time in-app purchase is unlocked. The country is derived from the IP address during transmission; the IP address itself is not stored. Events never contain your content — no plant names, no photos, no photo metadata and no email addresses.

So that usage can be evaluated across app sessions (for example how many users return after a week), the app transmits the date on which your Apple Account first acquired the app. A one-way hash of this date serves as a pseudonymous identifier. It contains no personal details, and neither the developer nor Aptabase can identify you from it. The app does not track you across apps or websites of other companies and does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA).

2.5 Permissions

The app only requests the permissions needed for the respective feature:

• Camera: to take photos of your plants. The photos are stored in the app. The app does not record your location, so captures contain no location data.
• Photos (add only): when you want to save or export photos to your library. The app cannot read your library with this permission.
• Photo import: uses the system photo picker. The app only receives the photos you select and has no access to the rest of your library.
• Notifications: for optional care and photo round reminders. These reminders are generated locally on your device. Care reminders may include the names of the plants concerned, which can therefore also appear on the lock screen.

You can revoke all permissions at any time in the iOS Settings.

2.6 Photo metadata

Imported photos are stored as the original file including its metadata (for example capture date, camera model and, if present in the original, location data). When you save photos to your library, export them or share them via the share sheet, the original file is passed on together with this metadata.

2.7 Widgets, Spotlight and Shortcuts

For widgets, search (Spotlight) and Siri Shortcuts, the app stores plant names and small preview images in a protected area on your device. This data does not leave your device.

2.8 App Store

When you download or update the app through the App Store, Apple processes data under its own terms. The developer does not receive any personal data from this.

3. This website

This website is delivered through Cloudflare Pages by Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you visit, Cloudflare processes technically necessary connection data such as your IP address, date and time of access, the page requested and browser and operating system details in order to deliver the website and protect it from attacks. The legal basis is the legitimate interest in secure and reliable operation (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the EU standard contractual clauses apply. See the Cloudflare privacy policy for details.

The website sets no cookies, uses no analytics or tracking services and embeds no third-party content. It only links to the App Store.

4. Contact by email

If you write to us by email, we process your email address and the content of your message to answer your request (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR). Messages are deleted once they are no longer needed, unless statutory retention obligations apply.

5. Your rights

You have the right to access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16 GDPR), erasure (Art. 17 GDPR), restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR), data portability (Art. 20 GDPR) and objection (Art. 21 GDPR) towards the controller. You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). Since the developer stores no content from the app and the usage statistics (section 2.4) cannot be attributed to a person, these rights mainly concern your email correspondence with us. You can view and delete the app's content yourself at any time in the app, on your device and in your iCloud settings.

6. Changes

We update this privacy policy when the app or the legal situation changes. The current version is always available on this page; the date of the last change is shown at the top.
